Race #2: Going Nowhere Fast

The real question is, was last race a fluke? We showed legit speed to run up front but was that a random set of circumstances or are we really that good this year? There is no real way to know unless you go out back it up time and time again. I was confident we were that good but the trick is to use that confidence sparingly so you don’t over drive the car on another day with difficult track conditions. We were now fifth in the car class lineup and the track would be in far worse shape than the race before.

Welcome Back!

Aaaaaannnnnndddddd we’re back, after a long period of no updates. Sorry about that. How about a quick recap from last season and early 2015. We finished out the 2014 season as well as the races prior to it and held on to a fifth place finish in the standings. That was something to be excited for and our best finish in the standings since 2011 when we finished fourth.

Race Day 9-13-14

There was a lot of damage to repair from the crash last race but we got it all squared away. The car was setup and balanced like it was before and ready to race for a dry slick track. It’s hard to believe that things could get even hotter this summer but they did with temperatures well in to the hundreds. Googleing the weather listed the Barona Hotel and Casino, which is just a few minutes down the road, at one hundred and eight for the high. At twelve thirty in the afternoon its was already one hundred and two. It was going to be miserably hot in side the car all day long.

Race Day 8-30-14

Technically summer might be winding down but San Diego is mostly immune to weather season like other parts of the country. On the long Labor Day Holiday weekend the temperatures were still peaking at ninety five plus. The car count in all the classes was a bit lower than normal and so was fan attendance. There was a slight breeze down in the pits but it doesn’t matter when the sun in beating down on your car in staging.

We initially started out with fifteen dwarf cars which was nice, the lower car count should keep the crazy down. It didn’t help with the luck factor though as I pulled a forty seven out of fifty for starting positions in the pill pick. It was by far my worst pick of the year. If there was a time to do it though it would be when the car count was lower.

Race Day 8-16-14

The last race got rained out so it has been a month between races. This weekend there was zero threat of rain, only heat. It would have been nice if we were running at the end of the running order again because the track would have be exceptionally dry but because we didn’t race last time we kept our number one position. Twenty one cars showed up to make this a full race, on a wet track, it was going to be a rough night. These are the kinds of races that you have to survive, its so easy for every to just pin the peddle to the floor and go for it. Lots of things can happen in a hurry.
