Race Day 8-2-14

The first weekend of August of all weekends and it rains. The weather was fine leading up to the race, it was overcast and humid. Driving through Lakeside on the way to the track it rained pretty good for a little bit but once I got to the track it was only a steady sprinkle. That wasn’t enough to stop the racing though. To keep the cars dry most people kept them under easy up covers. The dwarf cars were the first ones up so we had to treat everything like the show was still going to go on. After the drivers meeting at 3pm the skies opened up and poured down rain for a good thirty minutes before the race was finally called.

At that point it was time to get out of there, the usual dirt pits was now a mud swamp. It’s one of the few times I wish I had an enclosed trailer for all our tools and car. I did what I could and kept most of the things in the back of the truck dry but once I removed the easy up cover everything on the car was soaked. It took a couple people to push the car back up the trailer with no traction in the inches deep mud. Its funny how a fire suit will keep the flames out but not the water, I was soaked from head to toe. So much for this weekend, the next race will be on August 16th.

Race Day 7-19-14

Battling the 42So this is it, I’ve been looking forward to this race for months. The conditions are set for what should be a race I can capitalize on big time. We are last in the running order so the track will be at its driest and its worst shape. A few of the faster cars are also racing out of town but that doesn’t keep us from putting a nearly full field on the track. Today is going to be all about track position and smooth driving and putting power down off the corner. Continue reading

Race Day 7-5-14

Heat Race 7-5-14It was a busy two weeks between races getting the car ready and fixing some of the parts after the last accident. I haven’t had much time to work on posts between work and personal projects either but everything is ready on the car for a double points race on the holiday weekend. The car went back together easily and with nothing out of alignment so I expected everything to work as well as it had the previous race.

Race Day 6-21-14

Race 6-21-14Race number eight of the season. The first day of summer and the one day after my 30th birthday. Last race was pretty clean and the car ran well until the caution just past half way so we made a slight adjustment which should free up the car a bit through the center of the corner. Other than that we were ready to race. Twenty one cars showed up so there would also be a B Main but I wasn’t concerned with that.

Race Day 6-7-14

Hot Laps 6-7-14Summer is coming. The weeks are getting hotter, the air is getting dryer and the track is about to get slicker. It seems to work well for me, the more dry slick the track gets the better I seem to run. Over the next five races and two and a half months the track conditions will only get worse, or better for me, as we run later in the lineup. This race we are third up, things should be pretty balanced for everyone. Continue reading
