The first weekend of August of all weekends and it rains. The weather was fine leading up to the race, it was overcast and humid. Driving through Lakeside on the way to the track it rained pretty good for a little bit but once I got to the track it was only a steady sprinkle. That wasn’t enough to stop the racing though. To keep the cars dry most people kept them under easy up covers. The dwarf cars were the first ones up so we had to treat everything like the show was still going to go on. After the drivers meeting at 3pm the skies opened up and poured down rain for a good thirty minutes before the race was finally called.
At that point it was time to get out of there, the usual dirt pits was now a mud swamp. It’s one of the few times I wish I had an enclosed trailer for all our tools and car. I did what I could and kept most of the things in the back of the truck dry but once I removed the easy up cover everything on the car was soaked. It took a couple people to push the car back up the trailer with no traction in the inches deep mud. Its funny how a fire suit will keep the flames out but not the water, I was soaked from head to toe. So much for this weekend, the next race will be on August 16th.
